Monica Brown received the Silver Star for her actions in South East Afghanistan in April of 2007. While returning from a patrol the last vehicle in her convoy struck a pressure plate mine which triggered an ambush. She left her vehicle and ran to the wounded soldiers amidst enemy fire and immediately began treating them even as the firefight escalated.
