Nice Bro. Looks like you got about $100 worth of PMAGs as well. Good choice.

SMR, Would you recommend the rifle in the 6.8mm or 300 AAC Blackout? I've seen quite a few of your posts, and it would seem you know what you're talking about.

I live in Texas and tend to do a lot of hog hunting. I currently have a Savage 111 .30-06 with which I am extremely happy. However, I also miss a lot of opportunities due to the bolt action 4+1 magazine. Imagine 15-20 hogs fighting for position around a creep feeder and they are making so much noise you could literally walk up and club them to death. I've owned a mini-14, SKS, and WASR-10 before, but those are all children's toys compared to your platform.

Granted, each round has it's own benefits, but I'm looking for something in the sub-200m department. I like the idea of a longer barrel, but would consider something shorter (as we usually ride around in a jeep with NVG's and just lean out and shoot). I've searched around the internet, but never really found a retailer I liked until I found your post.

Here's what I have so far:

Cost: About the same (for rifle and ammo)
Ammo Availability: 300 AAC is in reported production of 5mil rounds. 6.8mm?
Ballistics: 6.8mm was designed for CQB w/short barrel packing 44% more energy than 5.56mm at 100-300m. 300 AAC is similar to 7.62x39
Recoil (for rapid fire): ?
Optics: Going to be 1x Holo with NV compatability
Anything else?

I'm leaning towards the 16" 300 BLK, LP, but I also like the 10.5" CQB 6.8mm VIS W/Switchblock.

And, of course, thanks for your opinion!

For a hunting rifle I would stick with a large caliber like 3006, 308 or 12 gauge. My issue with the non standard AR calibers is amunition availability! If I can't find it at a walmart or big 5 I don't want it.

With that in mind I would look at the PTR 91, Fn FAL, M1A, AR10 or even go old school and pick up an M1 gerand

An AK style 12 gauge or benelli m4 would also do the job.
