KABUL, Afghanistan (Jan. 9) – Afghan and coalition forces targeted Taliban leaders in Nangarhar and Zabul
provinces detaining two suspected insurgents during two security operations yesterday.

In Nangarhar province, Afghan and coalition forces targeted an al Qaida-associated Taliban leader detaining
one suspected insurgent.

The targeted insurgent is the Taliban leader in Pachir wa Agam district where he facilitates fighters and suicide
bombers to attack coalition forces and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Jalalabad, Behsud and
Pachir wa Agam districts. Recently, he was coordinating an attack on a provincial reconstruction team in the province.

Security forces followed leads to a targeted location in Chaparhar district, where Afghan forces called for all occupants
to exit out of the buildings peacefully before conducting a search. After initial questioning on the scene the security force
detained one suspected insurgent.

In Zabul province, Afghan and coalition forces targeted a Taliban facilitator who operates primarily in the Shah Joy
district detaining one suspected insurgent during a security operation.

The targeted Taliban facilitator is responsible for support to Taliban operations to include the movement of improvised
explosive device making material and movement of money associated with Taliban activities. He recently requested an
insurgent bring him IED materials to his location.

Security forces followed leads to the target location in the district, where Afghan forces called for all occupants to exit
the buildings peacefully before conducting a search. One suspected insurgent was detained after initial questioning at the scene.

The security forces conducted these operations without firing their weapons.

No women or children were injured or detained during these operations.
