KABUL, Afghanistan (Nov. 29)
A new Spanish helicopter unit, Aspuhel 19, completed its first tactical mission yesterday with three Cougar AS532s in Herat province. The unit will support two International Security Assistance Force missions by providing support for Afghan National Security and coalition forces tactical airborne operations and providing medical evacuation if needed. Forward Operational Base Camp Arena will host the unit for the next 15 months. “Our main mission is to minimize risks, provide protection and save time, while transporting personnel through the Regional Command West area of responsibility” said Spanish Army Maj. Ignacio Rosales, commander, Aspuhel 19. This version of the Cougar AS532 has been modified with special armour protection, and has the capability of transporting two tons of personnel or cargo.

One of the 3 Cougar AS5/32 currently deployed in the FOB Camp Arena in Herat province, being descend from an Antonof. The crew needed only 5 days to assamble them and arrive flying from Mazar i Sharif to Herat
