Restrepo premieres on the National Geographic Channel: MON, NOV 29 9pm

RESTREPO is a feature-length documentary that chronicles the deployment of a platoon of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan's Korengal Valley. The movie focuses on a remote 15-man outpost, "Restrepo," named after a platoon medic who was killed in action. It was considered one of the most dangerous postings in the U.S. military. This is an entirely experiential film: the cameras never leave the soldiers; there are no interviews with generals or diplomats. The only goal is to make viewers feel as if they have just been through a 90-minute deployment. This is war, full stop. The conclusions are up to you.

Wow

it was a good Documentary.
At our Company lines all through the film you could hear idle chatter and the sound of weapons being cleaned, until the part where SSgt Rougle is killed.
Everything stopped..even the new guys who haven't been over there caught the feeling in the air and went silent. Some of the guys have been through that exact scenario...horror..shock..disbelief (no that isn't him) then acceptance "I have to see him..I have to see what happened" then you just break down ....Some of the guys had to walk away..the ones that stayed where stone silent and didn't move an inch the whole time..all of our hearts tore to pieces for what they where going through at that moment.I wish that all the people who shit talk soldiers could feel that pain..if even just for a second,so that maybe they would be a little more compassionate.

that is truly sad :S i can only imagine so sorry to hear and yes i hope everyone who watched it would feel it even for 1 second.... for people to realise what soldier's go through not only physically but mentaly it can test human being's to breaking point no doubt about that. Emotionaly drained, God Bless The Good Servicemen and women :)

I've had the good fortune ( if you can call it that ) to not have had to see friends of mine that have been killed laying out in the open.
Thankfully it has been after they where covered so all I could see was a foot..or hand or piece of equipment,if I had seen their face at that moment I would have been even more devastated then I already was.

I'm Agnostic..but I pray for every single soldier in harms way.
I hope that 1 day in the future we can all look back in pride at what we accomplished in what will hopefully be a peaceful and stable Afghanistan without the need for foreign soldiers there to protect the women and children.
but I fear it is just going to be more of the same once the last Soldier has pulled out..after a few choice encounters with ANA..ANP and the ABP I can see that country going back to what it was while the Taliban ruled with an Iron fist and that makes me sad..knowing that all the men and woman who left their country to help the Afghan people ..who died for the Afghan peoples right to freedom will be forgotten by the people they tried to help.

sorry I'm going to stop..I'm starting to go off on a rant..fueled by the emotions that Restrepo has re-surfaced.

Brother you are not alone in those thoughts....I can see the Iraqi government going the same way as the South Vietmanese government did in 75. The corrupotion and politicing here is out of control and beyond absurd. I wish that I was in Afghanistan and not Iraq. That is why I agreed to go on this tour. Now that I sit here in the COB providing PSD for civilians and officers I really question what the fuck for.....the IP's are beyond llistening and do not want us to help the. They still ask for equipment and when they dont get what they want they use IED's. BTW the last IDF here on the COB was video taped.....16 rockets had taken off out of 25......9 never left the tubes. No one was injured by the attack and they managed to hit a construction companies office(Iraqi owned and operated).

Ah dammit I missed it...I'm so pissed. It doesn't show in theaters here either and I didn't manage to come home in time to see it on T.V....I could download but every time I want to I feel like I'd be disrespecting the people who filmed the documentary and by doing that I am disrespecting those soldiers who fought....
