Iv seen it on CNN and other sites just dont know the name of the moutain or the operation. Chinook was shot down on an moutain side with rangers onboard. An UAV caught the action that unfolded. If anybody gots an link to the vid or more info that would be very nice.

i believe you are talking about Operation Redwing. i believe the helicopter was Rotor 33 or something like that. supposedly the insurgents released a video of it too, but ive never seen one

Ya i dont know if thats the operation or not, but iv seen the vid befor. There were two vids like you have said. I cant find them at all though. Even if i try by looking up Operation Redwing it just gives me an seal story. There were Rangers onboard that Chinook when it went down on the moutain even an movie was made about it. Lamb something, if anybody can find any info or anything about this would be very nice. Thanks for trying to help.

The insurgent video of Redwing, the aftermath, a corpse and some equipment, not the actual shooting down of the helicopter.
It also showed the wooded area and you could hear some fighting, was pretty shitty to be honest, that video was in these forums
a while back, I doubt it's still here.

Damn. I've seen part of that video a while back but not the actual Chinook footage.

Redwing was a sad example of the prowess and expertise of our special forces. They lasted upwards of 40 minutes fighting hundreds of insurgents, even killing many of them.

Yha thats the one iv seen on this fourm was the insurgent vid, but the UAV vid that was out and that CNN an 60min's got was the actual UAV of the Chinook crashing and the interview of one of the Rangers. UAV showed the Chinook down just as it landed on the moutain, blades were still moving and Rangers were moving out of the chopper. Iv look all over for the UAV vid that showed this and its operation but no info. Thanks for the help on this, if you guys find that UAV or the interview of this operation that would be nice, thank you.

Wasn't redwing seals, not rangers?

the chinook went to rescue the seals with 8 night stalkers and 8 seals onboard. it was shot down by an RPG through the open rear ramp.

so it was night stalkers, not rangers, sorry.

Interview with the UAV vid was put into by an Ranger that was onboard the Chinook on CNN and 60min. I think the first Chinook that went down was the seal's but the other Chinook was Rangers. Im very sure it was Rangers cause alot were gone befor they even could get out of the chopper and it was more then 8 on the 2nd Chinook. I realy would like to get all the info and that UAV vid, or even that interview with that Ranger. I realy dont know the story. I would like to know it though. Mybe it was an different operation and not redwing as im sure Rangers were in this fire fight. Redwing was when that one seal got shot for getting on the com to radio in air right? Just need that UAV vid and we could find this out.

I believe what you're talking about is known as the battle of "Takur Ghar" or later known as "Roberts ridge" Back in Mar. '02 it was part of Operation Anaconda, the battle was named "Roberts ridge" after it's first casualty Petty Officer First Class Neil C. Roberts, Who was a member of the initial assault force which consisted of 2 Seal teams, Mako 30 and Mako 21. A QRF of 19 rangers and AF operators was later called in to assist, One of their birds was also shot down if I remember correctly.

Glad I could help. As far as the UAV footage goes I've only seen snippets of it within either documentaries or news reports, Ive done quite a bit of searching for the raw video but no luck, i'm guessing it's gonna be next to impossible to get a hold of.

EDIT: link I had no longer works, i'll find it though.

Well as I'm new I'm not sure exactly what is tolerated but I will ask If I can add it here at AC, of course It will have to be split into multiple parts and the quality greatly reduced..

Birky

looks like I'm gonna have to figure something else out Raz, it's too large for AC.

I'll let you know If I come up with anything.
