Victim: Janet's 53,
burns following her bleach attack
Grandmother's 'indescribable' pain in bleach attack at hands of hoodies

A grandmother told today how she suffered chemical burns when teenage thugs doused her in industrial-strength bleach in an Essex (http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard/related-355-essex.do) street.
The victim, 53 and 4ft 10in tall, said the pain was "indescribable" and her skin was "bubbling up".
The woman, a supermarket worker called Janet who remains too scared to give her full name, was attacked in Harold Hill, two weeks after three youths in hoodies on BMX bikes (http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard/related-43139-huffy-corporation.do) hurled insults at her about her height. Her dog Alfie, a labrador-alsatian cross, snarled at them to protect her. She believes they waited a fortnight to take revenge.
She said: "I was walking the dog and I was pushed in the back and felt about a pint of this substance splashed all over my neck, chest and leg.
"These boys rode off laughing. It also went all over the dog."
Janet's only protection from the substance, which doctors believe was hydrogen peroxide, was a thin T-shirt she had been wearing for decorating. "Alfie was yelping in pain and as we ran home I felt it start to burn," she said. "My skin was bubbling up and the pain was indescribable. If it had gone in my eyes I would have been blinded. My daughter hosed down the dog."
Detectives are treating the attack as grievous bodily harm with intent. Janet was treated in hospital for second-degree burns. Specialists fear it will take two years for her skin to recover.
The boys are described as white and aged 15 or 16. Anyone with information about Monday evening's attack, near Cornflower Way, should call Dc Chris Haworth on 0300 123 1212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
