8/28/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force troops in Afghanistan during operations Aug. 27, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

Air Operations in Afghanistan

Close-Air Support

Ghecko
Coalition MQ-9 Reaper operators provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and released a missile over an enemy target to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers declared the engagement successful.

Asmar
Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted shows of force to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers and joint terminal attack controllers called the engagements successful.

Moqor
Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircrews conducted multiple shows of force with flares over enemy targets to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers and JTACs called the engagements successful.

Sangin
Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and performed a strafing run against an enemy position to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers and JTACs called the engagement successful.

Asadabad
F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted show of force to deter enemy activity. JTACs deemed the engagement successful.

Lashkar Gah
F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and performed a strafing run against an enemy position to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers and JTACs declared the engagement successful.

Chahar Bagh
A-10 pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted a show of force with flares and performed multiple strafing runs to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers and JTACs declared the engagements successful.

Helmand Province
Air Force C-17 Globemaster III and C-130 Hercules aircrews flew combat-airdrop missions in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 132,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Zabul Province
C-17 and C-130 aircrews flew combat-airdrop missions in Zabul Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 114,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces
