Thieves snatch hero’s quad bike

WAR hero Tom Neathway was devastated last night after burglars stole the quad bike that became his lifeline after losing three limbs in a Taliban blast.

The paratrooper - who made a brave appearance at The Sun-backed Millies awards - is thought to have been deliberately targeted.

The sick raiders made off with his £6,000 Apache RLX320 bike.

Police believe the thieves may have been watching the corporal's home for some time before breaking into his garage and stealing the vehicle yesterday.

Tom, 26 also thinks he was targeted. He said: "Whoever took it must have been watching me, and will have seen that I have lost my legs and arm. I took it out for a spin on Sunday afternoon and I wonder if that is when I was seen by the thieves."

Speaking at his Worcestershire home, he added: "Until I bought the quad bike I was stuck in a wheelchair.

"It gave me such a confidence boost, because it gave me back my freedom to go out and drive about.

"The fact that it has been stolen leaves me feeling gutted."

He went on: "To most people the quad bike is just a bike. But I bought it after I was injured using some of my compensation money.

"I know it sounds stupid, but I was attached to it. It makes me feel angry that there are people out there who would target me, despite my injuries. I hope someone out there will read this and will feel able to let the police know who took it. It would be great to get it back because, as I say, it was very important to me."

Former sniper Tom, who was hit by a roadside bomb while with 2 Para in Afghanistan in July 2008, has inspired the country with his determination to overcome his horrific injuries.

His story and positive outlook on life was highlighted in the Bafta award-winning BBC TV documentary Wounded.

That followed Tom's journey through the military's rehabilitation centre at Headley Court.

He now works as an instructor to troops doing parachute training.

Tom was nominated for an Overcoming Adversity Award at the Millies - where he mingled with celebrities, including Corrie star Helen Worth.

Hopefully they get his bike back and hind and quarter the scum who took it. What an insult.
