KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — Starting next month, Klamath County will have a court specifically for nonviolent offenders who are military veterans.

The county said earlier this year it would form a veterans court. The court is based on similar efforts elsewhere in the United States, including Buffalo and Las Vegas.

Klamath County District Attorney Ed Caleb said the court will be organized on a principle similar to that of the county’s drug court, which requires offenders to plead guilty and then take part in treatment and other activities.

With many veterans dealing with depression and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Caleb said the county expects no shortage of cases.
