Who Dares Binned

By DUNCAN LARCOMBE and JOHN KAY
losing one of its regiments in the defence cuts, The Sun can reveal.

The legendary Who Dares Wins unit is not immune from the huge slash in military spending, sources say.

A plan is understood to have been hatched secretly to sacrifice 23 SAS Regiment, made up of 200 Territorial Army members.
Chiefs are concerned that the proposed cuts, to be outlined in the Strategic Defence and Security Review in the autumn, will not affect "core capabilities".
Because 23 SAS is composed of reservists, rather than regulars, it is seen as the "least worst option". But the news will send shockwaves through the services.
A source said: "No area is immune - 23 SAS is being lined up as the sacrificial lamb."
The Special Air Service comprises the regular 22 Regiment and reservist 21 and 23 Regiments. Last year Gordon Brown confirmed 500 UK Special Forces are in Afghanistan. The SAS and the Navy's Special Boat Service target the Taliban, along with reconnaissance and intelligence-gathering roles.
Currently 23 SAS has its HQ in Birmingham with units in other locations including Manchester, Tyneside and Scotland.
