8/14/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force troops in Afghanistan during operations Aug. 13, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

Air Operations in Afghanistan

Close-Air Support

Tarin Kowt
Navy F/A-18C Hornet pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted a show of force which joint terminal attack controllers deemed successful.

Oruzgan
F/A-18C pilots and Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces The Hornet pilots released precision-guided munitions over enemy targets to deter enemy activity. The A-10 pilots performed multiple strafing runs, conducted a show of force with flares, and released precision-guided munitions over enemy targets to deter enemy activity. JTACs and ground controllers called the engagements successful.

Qal-E-Naw
An Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircrew released precision-guided munitions against an enemy position to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers and JTACs declared the engagement successful.

Abchakan
Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircrews conducted a show of force over enemy targets to deter enemy activity. JTACs declared the engagement successful.

Lashkar Gah
F/A-18C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted a show of force with flares which JTACs deemed successful.

Moqor
F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted a show of force over enemy targets to deter enemy activity. JTACs called the engagement successful.

Soltani
F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and released precision-guided munitions against an enemy target to deter enemy activity. JTACs and ground controllers called the engagement successful.


Airlift Action

Helmand Province
Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrews flew combat-airdrop missions in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 160,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Nuristan Province
An Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Nuristan Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 9,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Paktika Province
A C-17 aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Paktika Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 68,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Zabul Province
A C-17 aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Zabul Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 88,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
